Book Review: Hello, Summer

When I first read the synopsis of Mary Kay Andrews’ new book, HELLO, SUMMER I knew I would be reading it. I instantly had a connection to the book with the plot that centers around a family-owned newspaper. My family used to own a newspaper, and although I never worked at The Paper as we called it, I will always have an affinity for stories that include them.

SYNOPSIS & REVIEW

In a small town in the Florida Panhandle, two sisters are working hard to keep their family-owned weekly newspaper afloat, an almost impossible task in today’s world. Grayson, the older of the two sisters, has been struggling to keep their newspaper, The Beacon, alive while younger sister. Conley has been off persuing her journalist career in larger markets. But when life unexpectedly brings Conley back to her hometown of Silver Bay, in no time she finds herself working for the family business…whether she like it or not. When a local politician is suddenly killed in a suspicious one-car crash, there is plenty of drama and intrigue to write about! But not everyone is thrilled with all of Conley’s investigative reporting. Small towns and big drama don’t always mix!

I love Mary Kay Andrews’ books and this one did not disappoint. There is mystery and love and plenty of characters to root for and a few to hate. Life isn’t always neat and tidy, and neither was certain parts of this book, but I’m totally okay with that. This book is easy to read but will keep your attention while you do, something we all need right now! A perfect summer read that I highly recommend to all MKA fans.

And best of all, this book has introduced me to my favorite new summer cocktail, the sunsetter. It is the perfect reading-by-the-pool drink. And a sunsetter with this book is the perfect pairing.

THE SUNSETTER
Pink Grapefruit Juice
Vodka
Club Soda
Lime
Ice
Mix with amounts of each that fit your liking and serve with a paper straw and cute cocktail napkin! I like mine with one shot vodka, a quick pour of grapefruit juice (just to make it sweet but not too sweet), filled to the top with club soda and a generous squeeze of lime. Delicious!
